Lisztomania

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Franz Liszt, pianist and Liszt specialist William Wolfram performs some of his dazzling works for solo keyboard. We also explore some of Liszt’s lesser-known works for violin and piano.

Monday, January 30, 2012, 7 PM

  • Liszt: Funerailles, St. Francis Walks on the Water, Grand Duo “Le Marin” for violin/piano, Romance Oublieé Liszt/Wagner: Lohengrin’s Admonition, “Liebestod”. Also works of Lipinski, Sarasate, and Cesar Franck.

British Invasion

For our closing program, we contrast two remarkable British composers, William Walton and Edward Elgar. Walton’s strange and poignant violin sonata is the perfect companion to Elgar’s lush and brilliant piano quintet. We welcome Ilana Setapen, New York Philharmonic principal violist Cynthia Phelps, and the rising star pianist Orion Weiss.

Monday, April 16, 2012, 7 PM

  • William Walton: Sonata for violin and piano
  • Edward Elgar: Quintet for piano and strings
